Hi, friends. So sorry to have been silent for so long (if you noticed, did you miss me?), but I’ve been trying to finish another draft of ye old novel. Which I have. It’s called KEEP TALKING. Do we like this title?
The novel’s about creative and narrative ambivalence: how to interpolate a world full of people we love who also behave terribly. Specifically, it’s about the men in our lives who are “good men”—don’t be upset, he’s a good man—but who also seem to demo varying degrees of misogyny and chauvinism that are hard to understand. Because they’re the good ones! The novel is also about parenting girls post-Roe. And about election anxiety and the 2008 financial crisis.
Do you wonder why no one is hiring me to write my own jacket copy?
I am endlessly confused about narration these days—about most things, really—so there’s an autobiographical component to this novel that is new for me.
In other news, I left my full-time job at Measures for Justice to try to be a writer again and to start my own communications consultancy. I’m mostly focused on narrative development and storytelling for small to midsized mission-driven orgs that spend so much time on program, they downplay comms until they are left without a holistic way of describing their who, what, why in a way that’s compelling and clear. Enter: Fiona.
I think the site is kinda ugly, so I’m working on that (fwiw, DALL-E generated my logo!). If you happen to know a WIX designer who has 3 hours to spare, let me know.
I’ll be back soon to talk about my new VR headset. WTF? I get that I am late to this train—to every train—so you’ll have to forgive my wide eyes and relentless delight mixed up with horror and despair to the point I can’t tell which is which.
More soon—
